Sauté in dash of water:
1/4 cup chopped onions or 1 Tbsp onion powder
1 clove minced garlic or 1/4 tsp garlic powder
Add:
18 oz tomato paste
4-5 cups water
2 tsp salt (optional)
1/4 - 1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried basil
1 bay leaf
2 tsp sugar
3 Tbsp dry red wine or red wine vinegar
Bring sauce to a boil. Simmer 2-3 hours to mix flavors. (Can simmer all day in a slow cooker.)
