1 cup brown lentils
2 onions, thinly sliced
4 potatoes, peeled and halved
1 kg chicken pieces, bone in
125 g butter
250 ml water
a generous pinch of saffron
500 ml natural yoghurt
1 can shopped tomatoes
2 sticks cinnamon, 4 allspice, 6 cloves
15 ml ground cumin
10 ml ground coriander
5 ml turmeric
5 ml crushed ginger
10 ml crushed garlic
30 ml masala powder & salt to taste
