1 large onion, chopped
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 1/4 teaspoons salt, divided
4 cups low-fat milk
1/3 cup cornstarch
2 cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese, preferably orange
1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric
